Venereal Disease – Sexually Transmitted Infections
What is Venereal Disease?
Venereal diseases, also known as Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) or Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), are infections spread primarily through sexual contact. These infections may affect the genitals, skin, blood, or internal organs, and can be caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites.
Common Examples of Venereal Diseases
Gonorrhea
Syphilis
Chlamydia
Genital Herpes
HIV/AIDS
Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
Trichomoniasis
Common Symptoms
Pain or burning during urination
Unusual discharge from genitals
Sores, ulcers, or blisters on genitals or mouth
Itching, redness, or swelling in the genital area
Pain during sexual intercourse
Fever, swollen lymph nodes, or general weakness (in advanced cases)
Ayurvedic View (Upadansha & Madhumeha Rog)
In Ayurveda, venereal diseases are considered “Upadansha” and are often caused by vitiated Pitta and Rakta (blood) due to unclean sexual practices, multiple partners, and poor immunity. Toxin accumulation (Ama) and weakened Ojas (vital energy) allow the infection to spread deeper into the body.
Ayurvedic Treatment Approach
Detoxification & Blood Purification
Panchakarma Therapies like Virechana (purgation) and Raktamokshana (bloodletting) help eliminate toxins and infection from the blood.
Herbal Medicines
Neem, Manjistha, Guduchi, Triphala, and Sariva for blood purification and immunity.
Khadirarishta and Panchatikta Ghrita Guggulu to heal ulcers and soothe burning sensations.
Lifestyle & Diet
Avoid spicy, oily foods and alcohol.
Maintain strict hygiene and avoid sexual activity until fully treated.
